Long time, no see

So it has been a very long time since me and Chris have posted.
We have been very busy bees.
1. We found somewhere to live and moved in.
2. We got engaged.
3. We have been planning the wedding.

Somewhere in between all that we have still been collecting retro, kitsch and vintage items that we want to share with the world. Just think of it like we have been off working on writing material. Ahem.

Home sweet home
Anyway. Where do I start?? I'm not even sure to be honest.
Perhaps with our lovely home. It is a flat built in 1901 situated above a bakery in an old fashioned little village in the depths of Cambridgeshire. Every wall, door frame and line in the flat is wonky and we love it. When were spirit levels invented exactly??? Since we moved in we have been busy decorating, furnishing and unpacking. Well let's say Chris has I've mainly just been throwing up a lot and hiding in our now very pretty bedlinen.

Furniture and things
We have acquired lots of lovely vintage furniture from ebay, vintage shops and friends. I can't wait to post about them all!

The kitchen has an original 1950s glass fronted wall cabinet which is currently housing all out china and glass although the best of this is moving to its new home of a lovely wood and glass cabinet which we are collecting this weekend. We are also collecting a lovely solid wood side board and wardrobe and a 1930s 3 piece suite!
We also got bought a 1950s formica table and a 1930s dressing table and mirror as moving in presents from our mothers!

Will you marry me?
We finally got engaged as well after having bought the engagement ring months ago! We bought the ring from an antique jewellers while we were holidaying in Cornwall. It is from 1900-1910 with a solitaire diamond and is the prettiest piece of jewellery I have ever seen!
I got home from work one Saturday afternoon to find the flat spotless and there on our 1950s formica table was our treasured polaroid camera with a polaroid hanging out of it. On closer inspection the polaroid was of a post-it note (a private joke) that read "Will you marry me?" and the ring in a beautiful bakelite heart box.
Chris walked in at that moment and I jumped into his arms! We hugged as I giggled and kissed. He asked me if I saw what was on the table. I replied of course I had and was he going to ask me properly! He knelt down one one knee asked me the question I'd be so longing for him to ask me and said YESSSSS!!!!!! Of course!!!!

So that pretty much sums up most of what's been happening recently.

I have also got a job, though have been off sick since last week. I work at the Post Office! How quaint :)

I'll try not to leave it so long next time. Plus I'll get busy on the pictures next!

Love for now x

The Vintage China

This is the vintage china we got from the car boot sale! Me and Chris are really excited cos it's so pretty! We were feeling a little disheartened as we were nearly at the end and hadn't found any china which was mainly what we were looking for then found all this in the last 10 minutes! Lucky us!

The night before I'd also discovered these pretty vintage style cake tins in Tesco

Aren't they cute!

And just because it was so yummy here's what I had for brunch today.

Yum!

I have really been in a food mood today as I have also been doing some baking :) I have made mine and Chris's favourites rocky roads although this time I added some apricots as I had some left over form the cookies we made on Sunday so we will see how they taste. I have also made flapjacks for the first time too, so I am not sure how they will have turned out as they are still cooling but they smell delicious!

Our Coolest Find!

Last weekend Myself and the Lady decided to take a trip to the car boot in search of some quaint old English cups, plates and home ware. Which im sure will make a feature soon. But being a man we had to buy these!
This is a 1950's Auto-maptic. A very rare slide map! Described as "Safer and quicker to use than a folding map"
Being an old road map its Fun to see no M25 (the UK's biggest car park) and 2 proposed motorways (M1 & M6)
Its such a cool little piece of 50's tech we couldn't pass it up!
The other little find was this Very clean 1957 Brownie Flash 3 box camera from Kodak. It features a nice little push button shutter button, a filter, focal range slide and an optional flash!
I hope we get more luck like this in the future!
Enjoy.

Wonder Woman Shock

I have already posted today but came across something on a retro topic that shocked me and felt the need to write a post. I was reading an article in a magazine on DC Comic's Wonder Woman. She is the world's most famous female super-hero and she is getting an all new makeover to mark the landmark 600th issue of her comic book. This is fair enough. She has had makeovers before, only before they just brought the same outfit a bit more up to date. This time they are completely giving her a whole new look she doesn't even look like the same character any more! She is going to be a lot more covered up now in leggings instead of hotpants and a jacket over her strapless top and they think that is modern!

Here she is currently:

And her new outfit is due to look like this:

I mean, seriously??
Her original look in 1941 was more sexy and modern than this!

What akso annoys me is that this is down to DC Comics hiring a new writer to apparently bring Wonder Woman into the 21st Century and he was quoted saying
"...She's been locked into pretty much the exact same outfit since her debut in 1941. What woman only wears only one outfit for 60-plus years?..." A fair point, but that said does that mean they're going to re-design Superman? I think not.
Plus does he not know vintage is big right now??

Retro camping

I love this camping photo from the 70s! Me and my boyfriend Chris really love to go camping in a tent and are really excited to be going this weekend. We are thinking of going to the Cotswolds as it is so beautiful there. I also love how not many people enjoy going camping these days and if they do go they cheat and go in a caravan! There is even a whole new craze now of 'glamping' which in my opinion isn't even camping at all! At least festivals are keeping the spirit up though!

I am really excited about planning this trip especially as Chris has just bought us a gorgeous retro picnic set by Brexton off ebay!

I love the colour scheme of this so much as I have never seen a grey set before and we both loved the polka dot cups and plates so much! Can't wait to use it.

If you are not into Brexton style picnic sets you can get some lovely picnic hampers and a delightful modern version is Cath Kidston's 2 person cherry picnic hamper.

I love the 50s inspired design. Isn't Cath Kidston just great! You can buy this one here

A really fun DIY picnic set I came across was on another website Design Sponge

There's a guide on how to make the set on this page I just love how crazy and fun it is! :) And yes that is real grass too! I also adore the wooden cutlery, so cute!

Another addition to our camping and picnic gear is a lovely picnic blanket, which I first spotted in Country Living magazine made by Barefoot Kitchen. They are made from 'shoddy wool' which is the scraps of wool that would usually get thrown away and Barefoot have made them into gorgeous blankets! I love the thought of this!

We have not received it yet, but we can't wait to use it! You can buy one here.
I also love the fact that it's a tiny company in Cornwall, me and Chris are both big on supporting small businesses :) They usually sell the nicest things anyway!

Next on the list is to decide on a campsite and the food to take which I have been planning already although I'm not going to write about that as it's a surprise for Chris!

I can tell you though that we'll most definitely be listening to some retro music while we are away as we always do like the Kinks, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, The Beatles, The Specials, Madness, The Clash and much more!

Hello :)

Hello to all!
Welcome to my new blog about retro stuff me and my boyfriend love :)

So at the moment I still live at home (separated from my beloved), but that has never stopped me daydreaming of the house I will own some day and what it will be like. I like a mixture of retro, kitsch, vintage, country, coastal, hand-made and the odd bit of modern. I'd love a peek into the future at what it might look like!

Me and my boyfriend are always talking about things we have seen and want for our house like these flamingo fairy lights which are way cool! You can buy them here

Also something I saw today that we both loved is this union flag throw which is so gorgeous! And you can buy one here

Another thing we talked about having in our house is a massive shelf for displaying all our retro cameras on, like the polaroid in the title banner. I will do a post on the cameras sometime as they are amazing! We thought it would be cool to just grab a camera off the shelf on the way out somewhere! We also want our own dark room too :)
